— Remembering Leroy Looper — Leroy
Looper was the founding chairman of the board of directors of YouthBuild USA, and served in that role for 14 years, from 1990
to 2004. He served as board chair emeritus from 2004 through 9/11/11, when he passed away. He was my guide and mentor since
we met in the Civil Rights Movement in 1964. He personified the knowledge that individuals could transform their lives and
become powerful agents of change and goodness regardless of the circumstances into which they were born or the mistakes they
had previously made. He spread love throughout his life, exemplifying the bedrock philosophy of YouthBuild. We will all be
grateful for his legacy forever.
